This factsheet provides an overview of homelessness in the LGBTQ communities in the United States. It presents data on the disproportionate rates of homelessness among LGBTQ individuals, and addresses the causes of homelessness, including family rejection of LGBTQ youth barriers to housing access, including discrimination in lending and mortgage approval. It further highlights good practices and concludes with recommendations focused on strengthening legal protections against discrimination, expanding inclusive shelter and housing options, funding wrap-around services, and improving data collection to better understand and address the barriers faced by LGBTQ people in accessing adequate housing.
