Chicago artists, Miami Law students bridge art and advocacy.

Miami Law’s Human Rights Clinic has discovered something powerful: when you give artists with lived experience of homelessness the tools to explore housing law, they create art that demands justice.

Over two years, law students facilitated workshops with Chicago artists, exploring the seven dimensions of adequate housing under international law. The artists then transformed these abstract legal concepts into compelling visual stories reflecting their own experiences.

One artist, Dave Scott, captured the impact: “Through these workshops, I found it refreshing to be treated as a person capable of thought, even though I have been homeless and even though I have a diagnosed mental illness.”

The prints have travelled from Art Basel Miami to the World Urban Forum in Cairo. This proves that when those most affected drive the conversation, the impact reaches far beyond galleries to influence policymakers.
