Launch of Scorecard on Compliance with Principles on Decriminalisation of Petty Offences

To support implementation of the Principles, the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI), with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) and in partnership with the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) and the Global Campaign to Decriminalise Poverty and Status, implemented a project to develop the Petty Offences Scorecard on the progress States are making towards the Decriminalisation of Petty Offences in Africa. The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) to monitor, document, and advocate for implementation of the Principles. 

The launch of the online scorecard platform marks an important milestone in advancing accountability, monitoring, and advocacy efforts related to the decriminalisation of petty offences in Africa. Taking place on 17 July 2026, the International Day of Criminal Justice, the webinar provides a timely opportunity to introduce a practical tool for advocating for compliance with the Principles on the Decriminalisation of Petty Offences in Africa. The event will provide an opportunity to present the scorecard, demonstrate the functionality of the online platform, and engage stakeholders on strategies for promoting implementation of the Principles across the continent.
