From a judicial crisis to a prison crisis
Prison Insider: A third of Gabon’s population lives below the poverty line, according to the UN. The country has a particularly high incarceration rate: 226 people are imprisoned per 100,000 inhabitants. Overcrowding in prisons is rampant, the vast majority of detainees have not yet been tried, and living conditions are considered extremely alarming by numerous civil society organizations.
SOS Prisonniers is an organization that works to improve the respect and application of the rights of incarcerated individuals.
