RESCALED is a European movement advocating for the replacement of large prison institutions with small-scale, community-integrated detention houses. They challenge the concept of ‘prison’ and proposes the concept of ‘detention houses’ instead. Detention houses are small-scale, differentiated and community-integrated. Thanks to these three principles, detention houses contribute to sustainable, safe and inclusive societies.

By inclusive, we are referring to societies that leave no one behind. By safe, we are referring to the effects detention has on public safety. By sustainable, we are referring to our future-oriented approach: socially, economically and environmentally.
