Beach on rocks

Kopaty owns and operates a bar on the beach at Kokrobite, in Accra Ghana that is heavily patronized by Rastafarians. In Ghana, rastafarians are often targeted by the police and assumed to be in possession of marijuana ‘without lawful authority’, which is illegal. Kopaty was remanded for a month on charges of possessing marijuana. He fought the case in court for a year, until it was finally thrown out by the judge for lack of evidence. If Kopaty had been found guilty, he would have had to serve a minimum sentence of 10 years.
