Henry Simiyu and his colleagues work at the Mombasa Police Station. They have adapted their policing practices to work with sex workers to prevent crime rather than to arrest sex workers for petty offences. “Our sisters and brothers of the night get into contact with a lot of people and provide us with intelligence. They help us in the fight against crime. In turn, we advise building owners to have their buildings well-lit especially areas where the sex workers meet with clients. We also sensitize them on the use of condoms and we don’t allow underage girls in the streets. We are planning to meet with them in a forum so we can become partners against crime.”
