How correctional administrations are responding to the climate crisis

The surge in climate-related disasters is creating unprecedented challenges for public institutions, and prison administrations are no exception. Many prisons, often old and located in areas prone to flooding or extreme temperatures, are being hit hard by the consequences of climate change. These conditions also exacerbate the daily struggles faced by people in prison and make the work of prison staff more difficult.

Although some plans and procedures are progressively being implemented, progress is still limited. Most administrations tend to act on the basis of action-reaction dynamics rather than genuine anticipation.
