The climate is changing, and the environmental is deteriorating. Public institutions are being forced to radically review the way they operate. Prison administrations are faced with unparalleled obstacles: their facilities are very carbon intensive, due to their size and operations which tend to be heavily security oriented. To varying degrees, they support governments’ broader commitments to the ecological transition. Measures are being taken to address architecture, infrastructure, transportation and even training and employment.
